Description

This virtual instructor-led course introduces financial coding at Shared Services Canada. Participants examine why accurate coding matters, how the six mandatory elements form a complete coding string, and how each element supports budgeting, forecasting, reporting and accountability. The session explains Company Code, Fund, Cost Centre, Internal Order, Functional Area and General Ledger account, then applies them through practical scenarios. Participants also review common coding mistakes, Cost Centre Manager responsibilities.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

• Explain why accurate financial coding matters.
• dentify the six mandatory coding elements and describe their purpose.
• Distinguish Cost Centres, Internal Orders, Functional Areas and General Ledger accounts.
• Apply coding logic to common transaction scenarios.
• Recognize common coding mistakes and identify responsibilities, support contacts and guidance resources.

Target Audience

SSC employees who enter, approve or review financial transactions, including delegated managers, Cost Centre Managers, financial users, administrative employees and SIGMA or Procure-to-Pay users.
