Description

This course provides a comprehensive overview of how Shared Services Canada supports Cabinet business and Cabinet decision-making processes. Participants will explore the roles, responsibilities, timelines, and coordination mechanisms required to develop and manage Cabinet documents, support ministerial engagement in Cabinet meetings, and the effective representation of organizational interests in Cabinet discussions.

This course helps participants better understand their role in the Cabinet Affairs function and how their contributions support informed government decision-making, while ensuring confidentiality and accountability throughout the process.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Explain the role of Cabinet, Cabinet Committees, and the Cabinet decision-making process;
  • Describe the requirements related to Cabinet confidences and best practices for maintaining confidentiality, security, and information management throughout the Cabinet decision-making process;
  • Explain the process for developing, reviewing, and coordinating Memoranda to Cabinet (MCs) and other Cabinet documents;
  • Distinguish the roles and responsibilities of departments, central agencies, and key stakeholders in Cabinet business;
  • Describe the work of the SSC Cabinet Affairs team, including coordination and preparation of ministerial briefing materials, timelines, approvals, and submissions;
  • Explain SSC Branches’ roles and responsibilities as they relate to Cabinet Affairs at SSC.

Target Audience

SSC executives, SSC employees working in ADMOs, SSC employees involved in providing ministerial advice or developing Cabinet materials as well as SSC employees working in Client Executive teams.
