Description

Character is central to leadership. It powers the quality of your judgment, which in return has an impact on your way of thinking and decision making. It is a “habit of being” that can be measured, practised, and developed.

Character Based Leadership (CBL) is being implemented across SSC, through deliberate, evidence-based, and integrated initiatives. SSC will embed character leadership in our culture and empower leaders to self-assess and develop their own character. Opportunities to integrate CBL into various human resources and organizational practices such as recruitment, selection or performance management are also being explored for longer-term implementation.

The Learning and Development team has created a Learning Pathway that offers practical learning activities to help elevate character alongside competencies in our organization.

The first step of this new pathway is the introduction to Character Based Leadership Session, which will provide you with the key information to start your CBL journey.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this session, you will be able to:

  • Explain what character is and how it can support you in your individual wellbeing and sustained excellence;
  • Describe the value of implementing CBL at SSC;
  • Summarize the Leader Character Framework (11 dimensions and their elements);
  • Explain how dimensions support one another.

Notes

If the session overlaps with the lunch break (ET), we will have an extended break to ensure you have time to eat.

Please note that new dates are added periodically.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us at leadership@ssc-spc.gc.ca
