Description
This course is a practical introduction to work place health and safety committees, health and safety representatives, and policy health and safety committees in Canadian federally-regulated work places. Learn how to fulfill your duties as a committee member or representative, as specified in the Canada Labour Code, Part II. Health and safety legislation in Canada, including the Code, is based on the principle of internal responsibility. This system recognizes that the employer and employees have a shared responsibility for work place health and safety.
Learning Objectives
- Define health and safety committees and representatives, their purpose, and their roles and responsibilities
- Define the functions of policy committees, work place committees, and health and safety representatives
- Describe the work place inspection process
- Describe incident reporting, investigations, and recommendations related to committee members and representatives
- Understand the complaint resolution and work refusal processes and recommend resolutions to employee health and safety concerns
